The object of the game is to roll the "Cootie" cube to find out what part they can pick up. It takes a body, a head, 2 eyes, 2 antennae, 6 legs and a tongue to complete a Cootie. The first child or adult to complete the Cootie is the winner. It can be played with one or more players. There are new accessories that can help build the Cootie body with the whacky hats and a lot of other new combinations. This game is fun for everyone to play and results in lots of discussion and interaction.

Herb Schaper was a letter carrier from Minneapolis who whittled his first Cootie out of wood in 1948. In that first year Schaper built 40,000 wooden Cootie games. Three years later more than a million were sold and were produced with machinery. In 1968 other games were created and called "Don't Break the Ice", "Don't Spill the Beans", and "Ants in the Pants". In 1975 a 15-foot Cootie floated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

In 1987 Milton Bradley acquired Cootie and other Schaper classics. In 1998 Cootie celebrated its 50th birthday with more than 50 million games that have entertained children.
