Comments About Toys for a Lifetime

  • Ever wonder why you loved that one perfect toy? Searching for an age-old classic to satisfy your wee one? Look no further, because FAO Schwarz's Toys of a Lifetime has them all, from Winnie-the-Pooh to G.I. Joe and Tinker Toys to Crayola Crayons. Dr. Stevanne Auerbach has cleverly crafted the ultimate toy gift book, including enticing color photos by Ben Asen, information about the developmental benefits of each selection, and tons of interesting tips and factoids. Must-have toys are categorized into nine chapters, such as "Starting Out: Toys for the First Years of Life," "Arts and Crafts: Terrific Tools for the Artist-to-Be," and "Outdoor Toys: Pathways to Athletic Adventure." Each chapter features a handful of classics, detailing history, safety, and why kids just can't live without them--like the enduring Etch-a-Sketch, for instance:

In its thirty-ninth year of production, Etch-a-Sketch has been called the "world's first laptop." Easy to use, this product allows both children and adults to make unique art creations that are easily erased. Using the knobs to control the movement of the lines, children can doodle, design, and draw and never make a permanent mistake.

So whether you want to cruise down memory lane or find out why the timeless favorites are still recommended for your kids, Toys of a Lifetime will charm and delight you, guaranteed.

  • Great pix and stories of classic toys brought back memories!

Really enjoyed reading the book...in fact did it in one sitting, as not only did it transport me back to my childhood, but it caused a flashback through my forty years in the toy industry. Seeing the great pictures and reading about toys and their histories that were either basic or became "hot items" was fun and brought back lots of memories of the toys themselves, the companies that made them, and most of all, the people I was involved with in the industry while these toys were "happening"
