Editorial Review:

The award-winning original LeapFrog Leapster handheld takes it up a notch with the Leapster L-Max for kids ages 4 to 10. This handheld features dual-screen action (players interact with the handheld screen and watch the results on their TV screen), multiple skill levels, tailored tutorials, and unlimited potential for educational fun. Slip in one of Leapster's many software games ("Letters on the Loose," "Rock the World," "Madagascar," "Dora the Explorer Wildlife Rescue," etc.—not included), and follow spoken instructions. Youngsters won't even realize they're learning how to write their letters, identifying plants and animals, recognizing mathematical concepts, matching shapes, performing logical reasoning, mastering diphthongs, and even expressing ideas musically and artistically! Four AA batteries required (not included).

Better than a gameboy! More versatile than V-smile!:

My 4 yo is so jealous of his two older sisters' gameboys that he sneaks into their room to play them. Personally, I think a gameboy at his age is too early and I'd rather have him learn and play "edutaining" games than mindless entertaining ones. I compared L-max's versatility (tv plug-in), cartridges and age span to Pocket V-smile and chose this instead. The fact that it's backwards compatible with Leapster games is a plus because the titles span grade school levels.

Finally, she'll sit down!:

My parents bought my daughter an L-Max for her third birthday and she's totally in love with it. We all have some sort of hand held device, toy, ect. that we use in my and my parents houses, so now she has something to pass the time away if we're out or if she's home. What i REALLY like is unlike other games systems (that i admit i have at home) there's nothing questionsable and she's always learning how to do something. She doesn't use the TV option, so we don't really have an opinion about the games that...

great investment:

keeps them interested while learning and sharpening skills- math and spelling. wish they had more games out there since my 6yr old has gone through all of them already!
