Editorial Review:
Designed for children in preschool through second grade, and easily portable, the Leapster multimedia learning system offers educational games, reading exercises, art tools, and interactive videos in one electronic device. Atop an ergonomic silver body sits a 4-inch, 12-bit color backlit display protected by a blue rubber shield. Slide a Leapster cartridge into the slot, and learn letters, sounds, colors, shapes, numbers, and more, using the touch-screen stylus and multi-directional control pad. This unit comes with a bonus cartridge of six learning games; other Leapster cartridges are sold separately. Control knobs let you adjust volume and brightness; there's also a stereo headphone jack. Required are four AA batteries, not included. /i>

gad:
this falls in the catagory of tries to do to much and sucks at everything.
Appropriate for the Age on the Box:
I bought this for my 2 1/2 yr old as he is always stealing his 8 yr old brother's gameboy and playing it. I got it out early for xmas and decided it is too old for him. He can do the coloring activity, but all the others are too difficult (dragging the shapes, hopping on numbers, etc). My 8 yr old actually likes it though.
What an INCREDIBLE toy!!!:
I bought this for my 5 year old and if I could give it 1 million stars I would!! The Leapster already comes with so many activities and levels that additional cartridges are optional - NOT a must at first. The screen's color/brightness is adjustable AND SO IS THE VOLUME!!! And I don't just mean the 2 level lo/high, but like 10 notches of volume (and can be used with headphones).
