A Sad Day In the Neighborhood

tribute to mr. rogers

Mr. Rogers

We remember Fred Rogers

When Amy was three years old we lived in Washington DC. One day when we walked in to a nearby hotel as Mr. Rogers was coming out. Amy looked up at him in disbelief. She loved watching him on TV. I said "Amy meet Mr. Rogers". Her favorite Mr. Rogers was a real person and standing in front of her.

Mr. Rogers looked down at her and then kneeled down beside her. He said "Hello Amy...and began to sing...Its a lovely day in the neighborhood....." and she was awe struck.

She and I never forgot Mr. Rogers and mourn his passing today.

I told Mr. Rogers that story last year after he spoke at the NAEYC conference.

He was touched also that we remembered. He was one of the nicest, most dedicated and sincere human beings and a real treasure.

We have all been blessed by his presence.
