The Original Flying Turtle® Scooter™ is is a fun and colorful transportation toy that comes fully assembled and ready to ride. It uses a high quality molded plastic seat and a chrome-colored, powder-coated handlebar. Its unique method of propulsion has made it the subject of studies in experimental nonlinear physics. It can be ridden by your child indoors on linoleum or hardwood, as the polyurethane wheels will not mark your floors. It can be taken outdoors for riding on the sidewalk or driveway, concrete or asphalt. The front wheels of the machine are connected to the handlebars by a lever, in such a way that they are located behind the axis of rotation of the steering column. This means that a torque applied to the handlebars will cause a lateral friction force by the wheels on the ground, a force parallel to the axle and perpendicular to the direction the wheels are rolling. If a component of this force points to the back of the car (by Newton's action/reaction law) the reaction force of the ground on the car points party forward and accelerates the car. Sit in the middle of the seat. Place feet on the handlebars and grip the handlebars. Swing the handlebars from side to side. Don't just turn the handlebars from side to side, but really swing them. Always ride seated and with feet on the handlebars and wear shoes. Allow only one rider at a time. Do not use on or near inclines, roadways or stairs. This is a great active toy that is safe and will keep your child entertained for hours and provides much needed exercise.A retired Boeing engineer originally designed the Flying Turtle in the 1970's. He used a tractor seat on his prototype model and made it for his grandson. The Flying Turtle® seat of today still resembles the tractor seat of yesterday.
